QUOTING

I sent you a quotation request by fax/email yesterday. Why have I not received a quote yet?

We strive to answer all quotation requests within a few hours.

Depending on how busy our estimation department is, and the complexity of your parts, this can sometimes take longer.

A factor, which often delays our estimation process, is the gathering of prices of exotic, or less commonly used materials, tools (e.g. countersink, or tapping heads) or accessories (e.g. rivets, washers, screws, etc.).

Please accept our apologies should you be in this situation.

If you still have not received a quotation more than 48 hours after having sent the inital quotation request, please do not hesitate to contact us to ensure that the estimation process has not been unduly interrupted.

I need to place my order urgently, how can I help you quote me ASAP?

To expedite the estimation of your part, we ask you to email us the .DXF version of your drawing.

Though we accept drawings sent by fax, if your parts have complex cutting contours, our estimation department's assessment of the total cutting length required by your parts, will take longer.

Please do not forget to include in your fax or email, the quantities, material grade, thickness, and delivery timeframe, you require.

All secondary operations required such as bending, tapping, countersink, etc, should also clearly be indicated.

A factor, which often delays our estimation process, is the gathering of prices for less commonly used materials, tools (e.g. countersink, or tapping heads) or accessories (e.g. rivets, washers, screws, etc.).

What is the best way to get a new quotation on parts, which you already quoted in the past?

The fastest way to receive an updated quotation on previously quoted parts, is to email us the part ID numbers, which you require, along with the number(s) of the past quotation(s) on which they were quoted.

Please do not forget to specifiy the quantities and delivery timeframe that you require. If you wish to provide us with the material for the project, please indicate, which sheet size you will be providing, or indicate that you will be providing the size needed to achieve our best pricing.

Please note that should you provide us with a different sheet size than agreed at quotation time, our pricing will be adjusted and lengthy delays may postpone the completion of your order.

We only retain the last revision of your drawings. Should you place an order based on the updated quotation, you should expect to receive pieces matching the last revision of the drawing you provided to us prior to that quotation. Any subsequent or prior modifications will not be integrated unless we are clearly advised, and we cannot accept responsibility for any such produced pieces not being useful to our customers.

I just received a quote for a part that I ordered from you just last month. Why has your price materially changed?

This can be the result of a number of factors.

1.
Parts which require relatively little processing, from our laser cutting or otherwise, are more prone to see their value increase with raw material price fluctuations.

2.
Our pricing is often affected by our capacity utilization levels. The pricing of your parts may have benefited from a relative lull in our activity, the last time you placed your order.

3.
If you require a relatively exotic material for your parts, our pricing will be significantly affected by our stock levels.

4.
Should your parts be relatively large and require a less-commonly used material, a small reduction or increase in desired quantites, may lead us to adjust our pricing to reflect the fact that some sheets/tubes will not be fully utilized, and thus retained in inventory for an indefinite period.

How can I adjust my parts in order to obtain the best pricing?

To ensure best pricing, please consider these guidelines.

1.
Avoid less-commonly used materials, unless absolutely required to do so. If this is not possible, either consider supplying the material for your project or referring us to a competitive supplier, and ensuring that the size of the parts you require and the quantity are such that full sheets are efficiently utilized.

2.
Try to use the same material grade and thickness for your project's parts, when possible. This will allow us to maximize the utilization of sheets and minimize machine sheet loading times. The resulting time savings, and reduced material waste will result in better pricing.

3.
If your parts are rectangular in shape, try to maintain their width and length below multiples of one foot. For example, avoid designing rectangular parts with widths of 12.225", 24.225" or 36.225" but try to keep the widths at 11.775", 23.775" or 35.775", instead. Since sheets are normally procured in standard sizes of 4' by 8', 4' by 12', 5' by 10' or 5' by 12', these tiny dimension differences could result in significantly more material waste.

I just ordered a few hundred units of the same part, can you provide me with a few sample units before producing my entire order?

Yes, we can.

There is no sense for us to initiate production of parts that will be of no use to you. We, thus, cannot object to the fact that you may wish to receive sample finished parts ahead of a full production run.

To avoid abuses, however, we must invoice you for the sample parts, as if your order was placed for the sample quantities. Should we fail to meet your elevated quality standards, we will strive to adjust our production setup.

Should the samples be acceptable, the additional cost related to the low quantity of the samples, will be credited to you, when you place your order for the full production run.

DELIVERY

Do you deliver?

We normally do not deliver orders, unless they are of a significant size.

Should you wish to have us deliver your parts, please advise your representative when you are being quoted.

Can I pick-up my parts?

You can pick-up your parts. This, in fact, is our preferred route for you to receive your parts.

When picking up your parts, please however consider the opening hours of our shipping/receiving department (i.e. Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm).

To schedule a pick-up at any other time, please contact your GEMVIS representative.

Can you process RUSH orders?

We meet tight deadline challenges on a daily basis.

The main factors, which could slow a streamlined, fast turnaround time are the following.

1.
The availability of the material.

2.
The availability of an Autocad 2000-compatible .DXF or .DWG file.

3.
The time required by our laser equipment to cut all the pieces you require.

4.
Our current capacity utilization and production schedule.

How accurate are your delivery leadtimes originally stated?

We strive to provide our customers with the most accurate leadtimes before accepting orders, by keeping track of (1) the required material's availability in our inventories, (2) the time required by our laser equipment to cut the required pieces, and (3) our capacity utilization and production schedule.

Please note that although we do from time to time enter into agreements with customers, whereby delays past set deadlines result in penalties, we cannot systematically accept responsibility for such amounts unless the scope of such covenants has clearly been framed prior to the order having been placed.

Do you process international orders?

We currently ship a great portion of our orders to the U.S.A, and we accept orders from most international locations.

Please note, that we are currently unable to accept any other currency than U.S. or Canadian dollars.

TECHNICAL

I do not use CAD softwares, can you quote or accept my order based on a paper sketch?

For estimation purposes, CAD drawings can be avoided, as at his initial phase, little of the analysis work requires a computerized drawing.

Should you wish to have our technical department create a CAD drawing from scratch, we will, however, ask you to accept less competitive pricing, to take into account, the time spent by our programming team to draft your drawing.

Please also note that should this be your chosen route, we will ask you to approve the final pre-production drawing via fax. This could lead to increased delays.

Finally, please consider that we cannot accept responsibility should the final produced parts meet the drawing approved by you, but be inadequate for your use.

What kind of drawing file format is preferred?

We prefer Autocad 2000 compatible .DXF files or .DWG files.

I don't have a flat pattern for some of the parts that I need, can you still process my order?

We use advanced software systems to compute the flat pattern required for flat bent parts.

We do ask our customers to consider the fact that to obtain an accurate finished part based on a bent drawing, requires us to proceed with a number of trials. This increases our costs and leads to higher pricing.

We thus kindly request you to specify the fact that you do not have flat drawings of bent parts prior to our estimation department procuring you with a quotation, to avoid un-necessary delays.

Can my company provide the material for my project?

Yes, you can provide your own material.

Please note, however, that our pricing will be based on the sheet size, material grade and thickness that we agree on. prior to the acceptance of your order. Our pricing will change if we receive a different material size/grade/thickness.

We cannot process corroded or bent sheets.

Depending on the complexity of your project a reasonable allowance (typically in the 1-3% range) for scrap should also be accounted for.

I want to provide the material for my project. Which sheet/tube sizes can you process?

Sheet Size
Our equipment can process sheets of up to 7' by 14'.

To obtain the best pricing, you should keep your sheet sizes to standard sizes.
(i.e. 4' by 8', 4' by 10', 4' by 12', 5' by 10' or 5' by 12')

Tube Length
Our equipment can process tubes as long as 24'.

Tubes of 24' need to be manually loaded unto our machines, to obtain the best pricing, you should provide us with tubes of either 20' or 21', which can be automatically loaded.

If you require processing of larger sheets or shorter/longer tubes, please contact your GEMVIS representative.

Can I receive the scrap of the sheets/tubes used for my order along with my parts?

Considering current high market prices for raw materials, we acknowledge that you may wish to retain your scrap material.

This is possible, but we need to be advised at the time of quoting, and should the value of the scrap not be substantial, we do not recommend it, as additional fees will be charged.

We will not hold on to scrap for more than a week after the completion of your order, unless previously specified.

Why should I use your tube processing solutions?

We believe that our tube processing offer is compelling for the following reasons.

1. No expensive dyes required
2. Clean non-deforming cut
3. Freedom to add contours, even complex ones
4. Un-rivaled turnaround speed
5. One process, One machine, One subcontractor
6. ISO-certified quality and service
7. Less waste than conventional alternatives
8. Competitive pricing

What are the capabilities of your tube processing equipment?

Our machinery can process the following tube blanks.

- Outside diameter or cross-section not smaller than 0.75" and no greater than 6.5"

- Length no longer than 24' (no longer than 21' optimal pricing - automatic loading)

- Wall thickness of up to: 0.375" in aluminium, 0.500" in stainless steel, and 0.750"
in steel

Please contact your GEMVIS sales representative for tubes, which go beyond these values, as special jigs and setups can be made for high-volume projects.

I have ordered some tube processing services, should I pre-cut my tubes to size?

Since a short buffer zone is required on both sides of processed tubes, pre-cutting tubes to the exact length required is not recommended, and will lead to either less competitive pricing or our inability to process your tubes. We, thus, kindly ask you to avoid pre-cutting your tubes or profiles.

To avoid increased costs, should you wish to retain the unused ends of your processed tubes, we, however, recommend you to cut the ends in-house, as additional fees may come in effect to return your unused tube/profile ends.

If you choose to follow this route, we do ask you to take into account a reasonable length between each processed part, as our tube processing machines cannot separate each tube unit, without a slight margin.
